Bass Basics

Welcome to the Bass Basics page! Here you'll learn about the fretboard, note names, tuning, and some basic finger exercises to get started.

How to play the bass guitar

The bass guitar is a very similar instrument to the guitar except for it's size, tuning and pickups.

Lets get started!

One of the most important things to know when you start playing is,
what notes am I playing?, first off you need to make sure that you are in tune.
Once you have done that you have already unlocked 4 notes, the thickest string closest to you
is the E string and next one is A,D and G. Now that you know that you can learn all the notes
as all the notes are in order, so if you the play the string the first fret would be an F and then the next would be F#/Gb, this is the full order A A#/Bb B C C#/Db D D#/Eb E F F#/Gb G G#/Ab

Bass Fretboard

The image above shows the neck of a bass guitar (ignore the inbetween notes just now). Each letter represents a note on the fretboard. Learning these notes is crucial for reading sheet music and improvising over chord progressions.

Easy Task:
A great way to memorize fretboard notes is to pick a note and now find the note all over the bass neck.
